Matilda
FREE Printable PDF stuffed full of Fun and Educational activities for Roald Dahl’s book Matilda!
Ah, Matilda.
While most parents from my generation probably mostly remember Matilda as the 1996 based-on-the-book movie staring Mara Wilson, it’s also a wonderful book that your children can enjoy today!
Matilda was written by Roald Dahl, who wrote other famous children’s books such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, and James and the Giant Peach.
Matilda was one of Dahl’s last books he published. It was published in 1988 — two years before Dahl’s death.
Below you can find activities to use as companion activities as your child reads through (or listens to!) the book Matilda.
Let’s take a closer look at the printable. If you wish to print it out, you can do so at the bottom of the page! (remember, it’s free!)

Audiobook Recordings
While we love our books, we love our audiobooks, too!
Audiobooks are such a relaxing and entertaining way to listen to books!
Our kids listen to Matilda as an audiobook on their Yoto players. You can find the Matilda Yoto card HERE.
You can also purchase an audiobook recording HERE.
The hard copy of the book or the audiobook are both acceptable to use with these free printable activities!

Cut out each quote from the book at the bottom of the page.

Hint — Miss Honey is MUCH kinder than The Trunchbull!!!
If I Had Special Powers
In the book, Matilda discovers that she has a special super power!
She discovers that she can move things with just her eyes!
Have your child take out their coloring supplies.
In the top space, your child will draw a picture of what kind of special imaginary power they wish that they had.
In the space at the bottom of the page, they will write about WHY the would like that particular power!
My Real Powers
Matilda is a wonderful reminder that you do not need magical powers to be special.
We each have our own “real” powers that make us special!
Have your child talk about what their own strengths are. What are they good at? How do they show kindness to others?
Let your child come up with some of their own strengths, writing each one in the speech balloons on the page.
Then, allow them to color and decorate the page.
My Favorite Book
Matilda WORMwood is a regular BookWORM!
In this activity, your own little bookworm will be able to practice writing a book report, all about their favorite book of their choosing!
Your child will fill in each section on this worksheet.
Don’t forget to have them draw and color a picture of their favorite book!
Word Search
I love pairing word searches and audiobooks!
This word search can be completed while your child is cozily listening to the Matilda audiobook or Yoto card.
Plus, this word search will help your child’s spelling skills as they search for each word and character’s name!
Try quizzing your child on each of the words listed on the word search. Can they tell you how each word relates to the story?
Kindness
In the book Matilda, there are plenty of terribly unkind characters.
Discuss this topic with your child.
Then, focus on kindness.
What examples of kindness can your child come up with?
What ideas for being kind to others can your child think of?
