Making the Ties

Lastly, we’ll make the ties to secure the bonnet. (make 2)

To create your ties, use worsted weight orange yarn and 5.5 mm knitting needles.

Cast on 60 stitches. Knit 3 rows. Cast off all your stitches.

Assembly

You’ll assemble your pumpkin bonnet with a tapestry needle and matching yarn.

First, fold the main bonnet piece in half, right sides together.

Sew the back of the bonnet and the bottom, all the way to where the garter stitch border begins.

Sew the ties onto the bonnet.

Turn right side out.

Take out your stem.

You’ll want to sew the back edge of the stem closed from the tip to the bottom.

Use a ladder stitch for this portion.

Lastly, you’ll want to sew the stem and the leaves to the top of the bonnet.

When sewing on the stem and the leaves, be sure that you don’t attach them to where the back of baby’s head will be in the bonnet. You want the stem and the leaves to be situated a bit more UP than that!
