Clothes for Mouse: Knit overalls and hat FREE PATTERN

Knit some overalls and a little hat using this free knitting pattern! These mouse sized clothes are perfect for a little dress up mouse (who is also available as a free pattern on my website!)

This set of overalls and hat are quick and easy to knit!

Supplies Needed:

Stitches Used

  • Knit
  • Purl
  • SSK (slip slip knit)
  • K2TOG (knit two together)

Let’s get started! Your mouse will be all dressed up in no time!

Step 1: Knit body of overalls

First, we will knit the body of the overalls!

The body of the overalls will be worked from the top down.

Again, I used a multicolored sock yarn for effortless color changes. It’s up to you what you want your overalls to look like!

Using, 2.75mm knitting needles and sock weight yarn, cast on 10 stitches.

Row 1: Knit

Row 2: Purl

Row 3: Knit

Row 4: Purl

Row 5: Knit

Row 6: Purl

Row 7: Knit

Row 8: Purl

Row 9: Knit

Row 10: Cast on 15 stitches, purl to end (25 stitches on needles)

Row 11: Cast on 15 stitches, knit to end (40 stitches on needles)

Row 12: Purl

Row 13: Knit

Row 14: Purl

Row 15: Knit

Row 16: Purl

Row 17: Knit

Row 18: Purl

Row 19: SSK, Knit to last two stitches, K2TOG (38 stitches on needles)

Row 20: Purl

Row 21: SSK, Knit to last two stitches, K2TOG (36 stitches on needles)

Row 22: Purl

Row 23: SSK, Knit to last two stitches, K2TOG (34 stitches on needles)

Row 24: Purl

Row 25: Knit 17, TURN. Work the following rows on these 17 stitches only.

Row 26: Purl, TURN (17 stitches worked)

Row 27: Purl, TURN

Row 28: Knit, TURN

Row 29: Purl, TURN

Row 30: Knit, TURN

Row 31: Purl, TURN

Row 32: Knit, TURN

Row 33: Purl, TURN

Row 34: Knit, TURN

Row 35: Purl, TURN

Row 36: Knit, TURN

Row 37: Purl, TURN

Row 38: Knit

Cast off these 17 stitches. Break yarn, reattach to remaining 17 stitches.

Row 39: Reattach yarn, knit to end. TURN (17 stitches worked)

Row 40: Purl, TURN

Row 41: Knit, TURN

Row 42: Purl, TURN

Row 43: Knit, TURN

Row 44: Purl, TURN

Row 45: Knit, TURN

Row 46: Purl, TURN

Row 47: Knit, TURN

Row 48: Purl, TURN

Row 49: Knit, TURN

Row 50: Purl, TURN

Row 51: Knit, TURN

Row 52: Purl, TURN

Cast off, break yarn. Weave in ends.

Step 2: Knit straps for overalls

Next, we will make straps for the overalls.

Make TWO straps.

With same same sized needles (2.75 mm) and yarn, cast on 22 stitches.

Row 1: (K2 P2) to end

Row 2: (P2 K2) to end

Row 3: (K2 P2) to end

Cast off. Make a second strap.

Overall Assembly

To assemble the overalls, fold each leg right side together, and sew up the legs.

Using your mouse as a guide, sew up the back, leaving a hole for the tail.

Turn your overalls right side out.

Next, attach the straps to the front bib and to the back of the overalls.

Weave in all your ends.

Knit the HAT

To make up the hat, we will be switching to circular needles.

Take out your 2.75mm circular knitting needles — and cast on 41 stitches, slipping to join. (40 stitches on needles)

Place marker at beginning of round.

Round 1: Knit

Round 2: Purl

Round 3: (SSK, K2TOG, K1) repeat to end (24 stitches left)

Round 4: Knit

Round 5: Knit

Round 6: Knit

Round 7: Knit

Round 8: Knit

Round 9: Knit

Round 10: Knit

Round 11: Knit

Round 12: Knit

Round 13: SSK, K2TOG, K4, SSK, K2TOG. Repeat on second needle. (16 stitches total)

Round 14: Knit

Round 15: SSK, K2TOG, SSK, K2TOG. Repeat on second needle. (8 stitches total)

Round 16: Knit

Round 17: SSK, K2TOG. Repeat on second needle. (4 stitches total)

Round 18: K2TOG, K2TOG. (2 stitches total)

Round 19: Move both stitches to same needle, K2TOG. Break yarn, secure. Weave in ends.
