Supplies Needed:

  • Small amount of fabric
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • FREE sewing pattern (found at the bottom of the page!)

Step 1: Print out your sewing pattern!

First, print out your free sewing pattern!

This template has two pieces.

A back piece, and a “cracked’ front piece that resembles a cute broken egg shell!

These two pieces create a “pocket” style egg.

ImportantDO NOT CUT YOUR FABRIC YET! 🙂

Step 2: TRACE — Don’t Cut!

Create two layers of fabric, right sides together.

Either place two separate pieces of fabric together right sides together, or just fold your fabric in half with the pretty sides facing each other. (the dull/wrong side of the fabric will be showing)

Sew all the way around your traced lines.

Cut your pieces out, leaving a 1/2″ seam allowance around your seams.

Cut little slits around your seam allowance, especially around the “cracked” part of your egg — being careful not to accidentally cut your stitches!

Step 3: Turn Right Side Out

Next, you’ll want to turn your front and back piece right side out.

Of course, there’s nowhere to do this since you have sewn all the way around your egg!

You’ll need to cut a tiny slit on each egg through ONE layer of fabric towards the BOTTOM of each piece.

Use this little hole to turn your pieces right side out.

You can use a hand sewing needle to sew these holes closed (don’t pull the fabric too much!), but truthfully, I did not. The holes aren’t noticeable and do not affect the function.

Poke out each “point” in the cracked part of the egg.

Iron flat.

Step 4: Assemble your egg

To assemble your egg, line up the “cracked” front of the egg to the back of the egg.

The cracked part of the egg sits at the bottom of the egg.

Make sure your holes are facing right sides together, on the INSIDE of the egg!

Sew the bottom of the egg, using somewhere between a 1/4″ and 3/8″ seam allowance.

This creates a pocket you can use to fill with Easter treats!
